Systema is a style of combat and self-defense that has evolved over the course of 10 centuries. It adapts the simple and powerful battle skills of its ancient practitioners for use in modern-world conflicts. Systema was brought out of the Russian Special Operations Units by founders Mikhail Ryabko and Vladimir Vasiliev in 1993.

Repeatedly tested in military combat and high-risk missions, systema has proved effective against a wide range of enemies in nearly any conflict scenario. Because there are no stances, kata, ranks, belts or prearranged techniques in systema, the art’s actions are always spontaneous, natural and free. Calm and instant precision rather than aggression or fear-based reactions allow for maximum protection from physical and psychological harm, according to its proponents.
